About jimi jamison

Jimi Jamison

Memphians remember a very young Jimi Jamison as the front man for a group called Target back in the mid 70’s. It was obvious then that Jimi had a big career ahead of him. Target released two albums on A&M Records and toured with everyone from Black Sabbath to Journey’s first headline tour. In the early 80’s Jimi moved on to sing with Cobra, released one album on Epic Records and by 1983 had an invitation to audition for Survivor.

In addition to being the front man for these bands, Jimi Jamison has performed background vocals for recordings by ZZ Top, Krokus, The Jeff Healy Band, George Thorogood, Joe Walsh, 10 Years After and numerous other artists.
Billy Gibbons refers to Jimi as the fourth member of ZZ Top and Casey Kasem, on his nationally syndicated radio show American Top 40, referred to Jamison as “The Voice.”

By the time he joined Survivor they already had one hit under their belt, “Eye of the Tiger.” Among Jamison’s best known performances are "Burning Heart", from the Rocky IV movie with Sylvester Stallone, which hit #2 on the Billboard Charts, "High On You" (#8), "The Search Is Over" (#4), “Is This Love” and “I Can’t Hold Back” a #1 video hit on MTV. Add to this his vocals/songs in movies like:: “The Karate Kid”, “Lockup”, “From Dusk Till Dawn”, “Mall Cop”, “Kicking and Screaming”, “Rocky IV” and more, and you have a resume with weight.

When his venture with Survivor broke down, he established his own band and released two solo albums, When Love Comes Down in 1991 and Empires followed in 1999.

Fans of the television program Baywatch will recognize his voice from a song he co-wrote and performed for the show's main theme, "I'm Always Here"

Jamison later reunited with Survivor in 2000, remained with the band, singing and co-writing their last album release Reach in 2006.

In 2005 he took a little time to have fun with other members of Survivor. To show that they didn’t take themselves too seriously, they got together to do an Emmy nominated Starbucks commercial by doing a parody of “Eye of the Tiger.”

Late in 2008 he released a new solo album called “Crossroads Moment”.
He contacted his friends Don Barnes (.38 Special), Dave Bickler, Joe Lynn Turner (Rainbow), Mickey Thomas (Starship), Mike Reno (Loverboy) and Jim Peterik (Survivor) to join in on one of the tracks on the album , “When Rock Was King”.

In 2009 Jimi headed to Germany and teamed up with partner Fred Zahl and formed the group One Man’s Trash. The German group recorded a new self titled album and began to gain European airplay and a huge following, preforming a show with The Scorpions in Berlin at the historic Brandenburg Gate for Silvester (New Years’s Eve celebration) in front of an unbelievable one million people. The project fell apart with Jamison’s return to Survivor in 2011

In 2010, recording began on a duet album, (Kimball/Jamison), with his friend and legendary Toto lead singer Bobby Kimball for Frontiers Records. Released in 2011, the double album included a DVD with two video singles with behind the scenes interviews and the making of the record. A number of performances in Germany, Belgium and Sweden followed.

On Nov 6, 2012 Jimi released a new solo album, “Never Too Late”. Critics and press report that it is the best album Jimi has recorded to date - .Many scoring it the “best of 2012”.

The video for Never Too Late was directed by Greg Bazzaro and can be seen on Youtube
