About Marion Pharoah Taite

Marion Pharoah Tate never saw himself as a singer, his start as a singer was really ironic. He was in a hot tub, right next to a pool and had on a headset and was relaxing and listening to music. Sort of singing softly to himself, he was heard by individuals in the pool and they said to him that he sounded just like Michael Jackson. Two of the five individuals were kids about 10 years old, and as you know kids are not modest and tell the truth. That gesture gave Marion the idea to try song writing.

He wasn't convinced that he could sing yet, he wrote his first song called "Don't Cry", he went to the studio to try and sell the song to the studio owner for performance by other individuals. The studio owner was Darren Brown. Darren Brown had Marion duress the song so that he could get an good idea how it was to be recorded. After creating the music to the song in the studio Marion then wrote the lyrics.

Darren then asked Marion if he would like to sing the song in the recording booth. Marion said, "No Way!"; Darren finally convinced him that they were the only two people in the studio and no one will hear the song, and if it turned out bad, he would delete the vocals if Marion didn't like them.

Marion decided to give it a try but with doubts about the turn out. Marion walked into the recording booth, put on the headset, the music was cued and away he went singing for the first time on tape. After recording the vocals the song was played back to Marion and he was beside himself; He stated, "I couldn't believe that this voice was coming out of my mouth!"; but it was. That began the era of recording by Marion Pharoah. He was hooked and kept recording song after song.

Marion has been invited to Karaoke Showdown where he had been given standing ovations for his performance of Michael Jackson's songs. Everyone at the shows would state that they have never heard a voice so close to Michael Jackson's voice like his. Marion is not an emulator and tries hard to create originals without the Michael Jackson bells and whistles. He wants to be known as Marion Pharoah, not Michael Jackson, but no matter where he performs Michael Jackson's name always comes up.

Time and time again, from the beginning Marion saw this as a bad thing because of the rejection from record companies that won't sign a "sing-a-like" performer. Finally Marion decided to push forward with his music regardless of who he sounds like. Artists that have influenced Marion are Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Baby Face, Prince, Boys 2 Men, TLC, Madonna, Cindy Lauper, Kenny Rogers, Lionel Richie, Luther Vandross, Barry White, Mariah Carey, Tony Braxton and many others.

Marion Pharoah has performed at several events for the city and community, and they have always showed love for the upcoming artist. Marion was asked if he has ever considered remixing Michael Jackson's songs, and his reply was "It can't be done; there is no way to remix a Michael Jackson song to make it sound better than the original." But the singer decided to give it a try "What did I have to lose?" Marion decided, plus it would be fun trying at that!

That's when Marion recorded the song "Liberian Girl", he let individuals listen to the song and they were blown away be his talent. Michael Jackson has been out of the music scene for some time and Marion decided it's time to jump into the singing ring and throw the first punch. He would finally come to the conclusion that it is the people that buy music and would ultimately decide if he is good enough, not the A & R Reps at a record company.

Marion will do what ever it takes to show the world that his music deserves recognition. Marion Pharoah creates almost all of his music by dressing the sounds and the creation process starts. He duresses each instrument to create what you hear on tape. He always creates the music first then he listens to it over and over until it gives him the idea of what the lyrics should be. "Yes, the music writes the songs, I am just the translator" says the artist.

Music is a blessing and it helps, heals, renews and makes changes in one's mind. Music is good only if it's good music. Light is good, and it shines on music that helps build the spirit. Sound is a sense that is really powerful and if put in a Godly order it can take you places without you leaving your seat. Marion Pharoah writes songs that are for the sad, the happy, the ones in love, and the ones that are lost. Music is a gift to the world and if treated as such it's power will heal the world.
