About Shylo

Originating from Kloof, in the province Kwa-zulu Natal, in South Africa, Shylo was brought up on artists like Barbra Streisand and Ella Fitzgerald . Her parents discovered her musical talents and creative energies and She started playing the violin and piano at the age of 4, where she began her journey into the classical music world and naturally picked up her instruments with ease. But it was later, at the age of 9, where her parents recognized her voice, and the ability to charm an audience, when she won her first provincial competition. Shylo played in the South African Orchestra for 4 years and won the International Instrumentalist’s Award, at 14, for violin. At 14, she also had the opportunity to lead the South Africa Concert Orchestra, and continued to win provincial competitions until the age of 18, where she started to make a name for herself in her province.

In 2005, Shylo was welcomed with open arms into Scandinavia, and particularly Swedish production house, Redfly AB. Under Multimedia (UK) Publishing, the team was due to release a single duet, with Pop Idol Christian Forss, of Finland, but agreements with Edel Records fell through at the last minute. This was the first major let-down, and Shylo pulled out of the project. She was invited to Texas, to discuss future co-operations with Independent Film Company, Star Harbor, at the end of 2006, which would have lead to a role playing Eva Cassidy in a documentary film, and a Sci-fi film called ‘Voices’. This proved to be the second major let-down as the major investor pulled out at the last minute.

Shylo moved to Southampton in 2007, and has started working with musicians from the area. She hopes to gig in the area and make a name for herself here. She is also searching for an appropriate Publishing/Recording contract as well as manager to aid her in attaining more exposure. Her official single Beautiful will be released in early 2009.

Shylo is classy and captivating in her performances. She is not afraid to show her vulnerable side and reveals this through her soulful singing, which has been compared to the late Eva Cassidy. She still employs piano and violin into her performances and recordings, and sings with every ounce of passion, emotion and intelligence. Her voice is best live ‘providing wonderfully warm, yet powerful vocals, with an impressive vocal range, and a spine tingling timbre’. She explores different styles and makes no excuses for having a big temperament. She is determined, yet sensitive, as well as dedicated to gaining longevity in the music industry.

A recent review from the DV8 Magazine, local to Southampton, written by Mark Moore, on Shylo’s first performance in the area, at the Orange Rooms, June 2007.
“Moving to Southampton only a couple of months ago, the first singer to take the stage in front of the impressive new backdrop artwork in the arch window was blonde bombshell Shylo.

She “showed her prowess as a strong songwriter….had all of us won over by her smiles and soulful pitch perfect voice.”
