About Paul Fogarty

The songwriting gifts of Australian singer-songwriter Paul Fogarty have attracted the interest of major music labels, indie labels, film makers, television programs, radio programmers, promoters, distributors, artists, agents and management in the US, Europe and Australia.

Meanwhile, Paul has remained independent, doggedly pursuing his unique artistic vision, ceaselessly working on his enormous catalogue of original songs and writing fresh new material every day.

"I quit listening to music somewhere around 1982," he says. "I couldn't stand to listen to radio any more. I have long expanses of time where I have almost no idea about what music was happening during the 80s, 90s, and 00s. I woke up one day in 1982 and it dawned on me, like a vision, that the music industry had been hijacked, but I didn't know then who had done the hijacking."

Paul kept writing songs and playing them at small shows to a faithful few for more than twenty years. In the meantime he got his bachelors degree in Journalism and modern history, studied philosophy and communications, and worked as taxi driver, postal worker, clerk, labourer, journalist, editor, cartoonist and humour writer.

In 2001 he quit working for a wage and has been a full-time singer-songwriter ever since. He is a self-taught musician and plays most often acoustic guitar, piano, harmonica and lap-slide guitar.

Paul has released three independent albums of his own songs - BREATHE in 2001, STAGEFRIGHT in 2002/2003 and BORN NAKED in 2006.

His songs find their roots in many genres, from blues and roots to country, rock, pop and jazz.
"Writing songs is something that I have to do," Paul says. "Even if it wasn't my career, I would still write songs and still go out and play my songs to people... it's something I am hard-wired to do..."

He has played support for Status Quo in Germany, Richard Clapton, Karma County, and Joe Camelleri in Australia, and in 2009 headlined the Herzgruen Festival in Berlin. In July 25, 2009 Paul will play the Showcase Stage at the prestigious Blue Balls Festival in Lucerne, Switzerland.
