About James Smith and Nu-Birth

James Smith (Singer/Musician/Songwriter) Contemporary Gospel Recording Artist Born: September 19, 1964 Birthplace: Sylvester, Georgia Inspired by his father to be a musician at the age 5, James became the lead singer in his father’s R & B band at age 10 and until age 15. His voice was strong and sultry, his moves were rhythmic, and his performances were high energy and commanded attention until the end. After college, James begin to seriously pursue his dream of becoming a R & B recording artist and over the next four years shared music platforms with noted recording artists Jimmy “Bo” Horne, Shirley Murdock, H-Town, and Silk. In years to come, James’ dreams and aspirations were consumed by drugs and street life until one day he succumbed to God’s calling. Thereafter, as a gospel recording artist, James performed with gospel recording artists Pastor John P. Kees, Shirley Caesar, Vickie Winans, Tye Tribbett, Karen Clark-Sheard, Timothy Wright, Keith "Wonder Boy" Johnson, and Elder Jimmy Hicks and The Voices of Integrity to name a few. In 2005, James Smith and Nu-Birth’s singles “Who Ya Working Fa??” and “He Set Me Free” charted #9 in the Gospel Truth Magazine and #10 in the Gospel USA magazine. In 2006, James Smith and Nu-Birth received the 2006 Contemporary Group of the Year from the South Florida Gospel Music Awards. Since then, James has been in the studio writing and working on his album to debut in the late summer of 2008.
